History of Phaistos
Phaistos was one of the most important cities of Minoan Crete, known for its magnificent palace, dating back to the second millennium BC. The city wad developed during the Early and Middle Minoan period, while the palace of Phaistos was built around 1900 BC and was destroyed around 1700 BC, only to be rebuilt.

Practical Information
Hours of operation: The archaeological site of Phaistos is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the summer period. During the winter months, opening hours may vary.
Tickets: Admission costs 8 euros for adults. There are reduced tickets for students, children and seniors.
Guided tours: To better enjoy your visit, it is recommended that you join a guided tour or use one of the audio guides available on site.
Access: Phaistos is easily accessible by car from Heraklion, with the journey taking about an hour. There is also a regular bus service.

- Wear comfortable shoes: The area has uneven terrain and you will walk quite a bit.
- Bring water: Temperatures can be high, especially in summer.
- Protection from the sun: Wear a hat and sunscreen as shadows are scarce.
